I have an image sketched out, but it’s in need of cleaning up and finishing and I probably won’t have time today to finish the page. There will be an update on Thursday at the very latest, but I may have one tomorrow as well. The next two pages will act as ending points for this interlude. After that I will take a week off before beginning the next chapter in Misadventures of a Comic Fan. With the beginning of that chapter I will be changing to a once per week publishing schedule for the foreseeable future. My intent is to post a new page every Thursday and post comic reviews every Tuesday. That’s all for now.
Wow! It’s been awhile. I’ve been busy with family stuff, grad classes, and working on inking samples. I’ve learned a lot by inking over other people’s pencils. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that I have a lot to learn. I’ve always approached comic art as pen and ink drawing, sometimes more in the minimalist tradition and sometimes more involved. This is not the preferred method in comics, evidently. Anyway, I’ve just started getting back to the continuing Misadventures of a Comic Fan. I won’t be posting any of the next chapter until I get a good chunk finished. Right now I have ten pages penciled and four pages in various stages of ink. The story will follow the pursuit of the Doctor and the introduction of new worlds and characters. A team will be put together to fix all the damage that will be created by the Doctor’s passage from one dimension to the next. In the meantime, I’ll try to get the current story line finished and restarted in the next week.
I’m working on an epilogue for the first book. It’ll only be a couple pages, but will tie up a few loose ends and set the stage for the next book. I may do a format and style change for the next book, I’m ready for a little change. There was no update on Thursday because I decided to do a page for one of my favorite webcomics – Guns of Shadow Valley. If you aren’t familiar with it, it just got nominated for an Eisner. Anyway, they were asking for some fan art, and since I am a fan, I did a page for fun. I don’t know when it will be posted but when it is, I’ll pass that info along. I guess that’s all for now, I’ll try to post the new page later today or tomorrow.
No update this week. I know, it makes me sad, too. The reason for this is simple. I’ve started prepping for print and am also preparing a submission to the Xeric foundation. The due date for that is at the end of this month which leaves me with a lot of scrambling as I try to get everything ready for that. The good news is we’re nearing the end of the first book. I’m not planning to wrap the story up into a neat little bow, though. It’s ending on a cliffhanger. After this is over I’ll take some time to work on a few other things – they’ll get posted here, too. The name of the site is Cactus Comics after all, not Misadventures of a Comic Fan. I’d like to do a few other shorter stories before jumping back into the next section of Misadventures of a Comic Fan. One of the stories I have planned is the Doctor’s origin story. By default this will also tell the origin of the unnamed bald guy. My tentative plan is to get back to telling the Misadventures story over the summer. I will post the remaining pages of this story in the next week or so, depending on how quickly I can get the printing stuff out of the way.
That’s all for today.
Dave
As you may have noticed there are some visible changes here at Cactus Comics. Although I’m happy to have made them, the changes were forced due to some technical difficulties. I’ve upgraded some stuff which has changed potential functionality of the site. Basically there are some behind the scenes things I need to explore. I’ll be doing that little by little and it really has nothing to do with why I’m taking a little time off. The reason for the break is simple, I had to spend so much time fixing technical glitches that I didn’t have time to draw any new pages. This week will be dedicated to getting new pages completed so I actually have something to post. I will have new pages posted on Tuesday, February 23, 2010. There are about 10 pages to go until the end of Book one. When Book one is complete I will be taking some time to prepare it for print and get Book Two started. While that is going on, you can expect to see some anthology type stories posted here. I will also take advantage of that time to do some formatting changes. I think that’s all for now.
Have a great day.
Dave
