Alright! First page of the new chapter of Misadventures of a Comic Fan! No, I’ve never been to Whitechapel, especially not in 1888. I doubt this is what it really looks like, but let’s pretend. I hope to take you on a fun ride to some unexpected places so sit back and enjoy the ride.

To be continued… Hopefully that feels like a cliffhanger. We’ll be jumping into the next chapter on Thursday, September second. In order to try to improve my publishing schedule I’ll be switching to a once a week schedule (Thursdays) for the foreseeable future. I will change back to twice a week if I’m able to work ahead enough.

Hey, look who it is! It’s been a while but hopefully these two are recognizable.

Okay, so the secret’s out and there’s no more hiding. Since the dawn of man, every evolutionary step, every invention, every new development has been inspired, implemented, or initiated by Better-man. Alexander the Great? Yep, that was actually Better-man. Dude that discovered fire? Better-man. Now, you might be wondering what his super power is. Besides being immortal that is. Well, his power is that he’s better than you. But only by a little bit. And it’s not just you. He will always best whoever he’s competing against. Every time. It’s made him a little cocky, but his heart’s in the right place. He’s still looking out for humanity. He’s just hard to be around.

An odd place to find an origin, right? Not only do you get the origin of the Cactus Comics Universe, but you get the introduction and origin of a hero. The above image shows the evolution of this man over thousands of years. He is immortal, in his universe, and is the cause of all advancements in human behavior. I’ll explain more next time.

Who is that masked man and what does he have to do with this story? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

This page covers millions of years, from single celled organisms up to a caveman making a fire. Don’t ask what the insect thing is, I don’t know. Maybe a trilobite? Somehow I doubt it though. I didn’t really research that one, I just made one up and threw it in there. Not like the rest of the page is heavily researched though, so I guess (and hope) you’ll just have to forgive me.

So… Picking up where we left off, the strange man and the dark rectangle had a big fight and as they died, they somehow merged together. This left the newly created, dual-natured creature weak and tired. He fell into a healing sleep and… well, created. So far we’ve seen the creation of universes. Today’s update shows the creation of thoughts, concepts, and ideas. We’re seeing the creation of thought and creativity. At the top of the page you can see Pat in coat and tails (and some hair) handing a manuscript to the idea of Shakespeare. We’ve also got some important math equations, the invention of art, stories and books, me and fire. Yeah, I threw me in there because without that particular invention, you don’t get the story. You’re not in there yet, but you will be. Just as soon as I can figure out how to draw you. You’re kinda hard to draw. But you are important. I didn’t want you to feel left out.
